Cosmetic dental care helps cover up ravages on teeth that may have been neglected over time due to no proper guidance. It offers image enhancement solutions for that winning smile. Whether you want a subtle procedure or a complete make-over, our talented doctors will use their highly developed clinical and aesthetic expertise to suggest and design comprehensive solutions that are best suited to your smile.

The procedure begins with a close examination and assessment of the aesthetic balance of your oral structures including the teeth and surrounding structures such as the gums. Problems may range from minor flaws in the smile to severe tooth discolouration, missing teeth and uneven spacing between teeth. Below are common aesthetic dentistry options that we use at The George R. Owino & Associates Dental Centre to enhance your smile and improve your appearance:

Teeth Whitening

This is normally done to lighten the colour or shade of your teeth rather than turn them completely white. A patient may need his or her teeth lightened if the teeth have become darker due to advance in age, frequent intakes of food and drink that have strong colours such as tea, coffee and red wine or due to other habits such as smoking. Teeth may also darken as a result of some antibiotics.

Let us face it! It’s hard to light up a room with your smile if your teeth have become faded and yellow. If you’ve got a wedding, class reunion or a big business presentation coming up, you might have genuine concerns about your smile.

The George R. Owino & Associates Dental Centre offers incredibly convenient, remarkably effective in-office chair-side whitening treatments that remove years of discoloration and restore your smile to its former glory in as little as 60 minutes.

The treatments are non-invasive, simple, safe and painless, and lighten teeth up to eight shades lighter depending on the degree of discolouration. The result is a dramatically younger-looking smile.

Dental Contouring

This procedure maybe of value to you if you have imperfections or problems like irregularly shaped or slightly overlapping teeth, tiny chips or cracks in the teeth, or excessively pointy cuspid teeth. Dental contouring only eliminates small imperfections and is best for people who just need tiny adjustments or repairs to improve the look and feel of their teeth.

Dental Contouring, also known as tooth reshaping, removes small amounts of tooth enamel (the outer covering of the tooth) in order to change the shape, length, or surface of one or more teeth. The process is often combined with “bonding”, a treatment that uses tooth-coloured composite material to sculpt and shape the teeth.

Composite bonding is a relatively simple and inexpensive way to correct disfigured, discolored or decayed teeth, or close gaps between teeth. After removing the damaged or unsightly portion of the tooth, we apply a composite resin filling that looks and feels remarkably like the enamel to the remainder of your tooth. We then meticulously mould and sculpt the resin to match the tooth’s original appearance.

Little changes can make a big difference. Even a few millimeters of reshaping in the right places can really improve the appearance of your teeth. Talk to our friendly doctors to see if dental contouring and/or composite bonding is right for you.

Tooth-Coloured Filling

In the past, teeth were filled with a mixture (or amalgam) of different metals consisting of mercury mixed with silver, tin, zinc and copper. Today that has changed as more natural-looking and metal free fillings have become the preferred approach. The most important feature of these fillings is that they look and feel more like natural teeth.

Instead of using an unsightly silver amalgam filling to seal a cavity, at The George R. Owino & Associates Dental Centre we give you the option of choosing a durable composite resin filling that more closely matches the colour of your teeth. They are a good choice for people who prefer that their fillings look more natural.

These white fillings do more than enhance your appearance. Because they require smaller holes and less removal of the tooth than amalgam fillings, composite fillings are able to restore the tooth to most of its original shape, leaving it stronger and less susceptible to breaking. They provide good resistance to fracture of teeth with small to mid-size fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing, and also insulate the tooth from excessive temperature changes. They’re even good for the environment. Since they don’t contain any mercury, there are no hazardous metal wastes to dispose of.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made dental laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps or disguising discolored teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures.

Veneers are commonly used to correct imperfections in your teeth, such as unsightly gaps or crooked, chipped or discoloured teeth. At The George R. Owino & Associates Dental Centre, our ultra-thin, semi-transparent shells made of porcelain, are custom-made to fit to the front of your teeth and subtly alter their shape, colour and alignment to create a more attractive appearance.

The procedure is relatively simple and can be completed in just one or two appointments. First our doctors will take a precision mold of your teeth. They will then help you choose the right shade of veneers for your new smile. Once your custom-designed veneers are ready, they will affix them to your teeth in a procedure so painless, you won’t even need an anaesthetic.

Gum Lifting and Bleaching

A gum lift is a cosmetic dental procedure that raises and reshapes the gum line to provide a more pleasing smile, while gum bleaching is a procedure that removes the darker superficial gum layer caused by excessive melanin, giving you lighter gums and a visibly better smile.

Having a “gummy” smile can cause a person to be very self-conscious about their appearance. That’s why at The George R. Owino & Associates Dental Centre, we offer a minimally invasive gum lift surgery. Getting a gum lift, which is normally done on the front teeth, will simply improve the appearance of a patient’s smile and thus their self-confidence. The procedure involves gently removing excess gum tissue and adjusting or reshaping the gum line around the teeth that results in proportionate looking teeth and a much fuller smile.

Although dark gums may be healthy, some patients may find them unattractive and may seek measures to lighten them. Dark gums can affect people of all races and ethnicities genetically, but there are also other causes to dark gums. Darkening may also be caused by long term use of certain medications.

We use the most modern approach to gum lifting and gum bleaching which involves the use of dental lasers. This approach is minimally invasive, avoids the use of needles and allows a patient to receive both treatments painlessly and safely. When done by our experienced doctors, a gum lift and/or dark gum treatment can make a huge difference, giving you a beautiful smile.
